  • Coin Specifications
    The Sacagawea Dollar was issued from 2000 to 2008. Featured on the obverse of the coin is a portrait of Sacagawea designed by Glenna Goodacre, while the reverse carries the image of an eagle in flight designed by Thomas D. Rodgers.
  • Mintages
    Sacagawea Dollar mintages illustrate the initial high hopes for the series and the eventual return to reality. In the first year of issue, well over one billion coins were struck. The coins were released amidst numerous promotional efforts. When it became apparent that the coins were not circulating as anticipated, production levels were slashed in the following year.

  • Goodacre Sacagawea Dollar
    The designer of the Sacagawea Dollar, Glenna Goodacre famously requested payment for her work in the dollar coins, which would bear her design. The United States Mint presented her with 5,000 2000-dated Sacagawea Dollars.
